Some sauces arrive with a marketing department. Others arrive with a story. Salsa Huichol has been made in Nayarit since 1949, when Don Roberto López began selling his family recipe by bicycle with little more than a handful of chilli, a grinder and 40 pesos in his pocket. Not a bad start to what would become one of Mexico’s best-known sauces. The original recipe centres around cascabel chilli, vinegar, salt and Mexican spices. The result is a savoury, tangy sauce with a gentle warmth that works remarkably well as an everyday condiment. Pour it over tacos, eggs, seafood, grilled meats or Mexican snacks. Frankly, this is the sort of bottle that earns a permanent place on the table rather than being brought out for special occasions. Simple recipe. Proper history. No need for theatrical nonsense.

Discover the deep, smoky heat of Salsa Huichol Black, a rich and complex hot sauce crafted with traditional Mexican ingredients. This sauce is a staple of Huichol culture, renowned for its balance of bold chili peppers and robust spices. The black version adds a subtle smoky depth, perfect for those who appreciate layers of flavor with a moderate heat kick. Taste a smooth, earthy warmth accompanied by smoky nuances, a subtle tanginess from vinegar, and traces of dried chilies. The flavor begins with an assertive punch but gradually transitions into a rich complexity, culminating in a persistent warmth. This versatile sauce is perfect for grilled meats, tacos, or adding a smoky finish to soups and stews. Drizzle it over eggs, roasted vegetables, or even stir into marinades to enhance any dish with an authentic Mexican flair. It’s also excellent as a dipping sauce for chips or quesadillas. Originating from the mountainous regions of Nayarit, Mexico, Salsa Huichol is crafted using recipes passed down through generations of the indigenous Huichol people. It captures the spirit of Mexico’s diverse culinary traditions, making it a must-have in any hot sauce collection. Made in Mexico
Picante Hot Sauce – Black

There are hot sauces that arrive looking for attention, and then there are sauces that quietly get on with the job. Salsa Huichol Negra belongs firmly in the second camp. Made in Nayarit on Mexico’s west coast, this is the darker member of the Huichol family. It brings a balanced chilli heat with a deeper, more savoury character that makes it remarkably easy to use. This is not a sauce you need to save for some grand Mexican feast. Pour it over eggs, tacos or grilled meat. Splash it onto seafood. Put it beside a plate of crisps and see what happens. Frankly, I suspect the bottle will become a permanent fixture on the table. No artificial ingredients. No unnecessary theatrics. Just a proper Mexican table sauce with enough character to make everyday food considerably less boring. And we all know how I feel about boring.
